Hiroko
The series of photos are portraying her playfulness and part of her story.
Often when I take portraits I try to capture what the subject imagines their own body to be. They are trying to think and move based on the information they have seen, been taught and experienced in their lives. Hiroko used to play baseball when she was a student. Her improvisational movements express her memories of movements from her time playing baseball. The way the muscles are built up, the way the arms are used and the figures and expressions that appear in her familiar movements are reminiscent. On the other hand, there is also a sense of exploration, stretching and playing with the garments and materials she wears, trying to do movements and poses that she has never done before.
I felt her reminiscences and explorations when I was photographing Hiroko.
